The help that GroceryAid offers can make a very real difference and is available to colleagues working in the industry today as well as those who have retired. People experience difficulties in many ways and the charity has developed services to provide:
- Crisis support
- Financial assistance
- Free confidential advice – via Helpline.
Crisis support
Crisis support might be securing a safe haven for somebody fleeing domestic violence, settling rent arrears to keep a grocery colleague in their home or funding a household repair.
GroceryAid also helps people who are off work sick, particularly those that have been moved on to SSP.
Financial assistance
Financial assistance not only includes ongoing support, it can also provide winter heating allowances and essential items such as beds, cookers and fridge freezers that many of us take for granted.
24/7 Helpline
The 24/7 Helpline (online and freephone 08088 021 122) provides problem solving and emotional support for a range of topics including:
Specialist counsellors are also available for those who have experienced a traumatic incident.
Who does GroceryAid help?
GroceryAid helps people in need (and their partners) who are currently working (for at least three years) or have previously worked (for at least five years) in any part of the grocery industry - from the largest factory, through the supply chain, to the smallest store.

How GroceryAid helped Kelly
Kelly first came to GroceryAid in 2013, shortly after her three-year old son Felix received his diagnosis.
After months of consultations and testing Felix was finally diagnosed with Phelan McDermid Syndrome; a rare genetic disorder caused by the deletion of terminal chromosome twenty-two Q-13. The disorder affects speech, mobility and cognitive development and means that Felix will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.
Since Kelly came to us for help, GroceryAid has stood firmly by her side to provide emotional and financial assistance.
