If you, your partner or spouse has ever worked as a Business to Business (B2B) salesperson - visiting business customers in their premises to sell goods or services - and now find yourself in financial need, then the Salespeople’s Charity may be able to offer you support.*

About the Salespeople’s Charity

The charity was founded in 1849, pioneered by a group of five Commercial Travellers who met at The Union Hotel Penzance to consider how they might help a colleague who was no longer able to work.

Since then many different titles have been given to Commercial Travellers - Sales Representative, Account Manager, Sales Agent, Business Development Manager, Field Sales Representative, National Account Manager, to name a few.

Not only do the job titles vary but also the industries and trade sectors we are able to consider applicants from. We are not industry specific – all we ask is that you have worked as a sales representative for a minimum of five years during your career.

How we help

Following a simple application process those seeking support are visited by one of our Trustees, who will seek to understand and identify an applicant’s most pressing needs. Based on this meeting a proposal(s) for support is made to the Board of Trustees, who vote electronically within 48 hours of receipt of the proposal(s). Once a majority is achieved the applicant is advised and the support implemented.

The type of support we can provide is extremely varied and includes such things as:

  • Assistance with utility bills

  • Funeral grant

  • Furniture

  • Home adaptations

  • Long-term bi-monthly grants

  • Mobility equipment

  • Respite breaks

  • Securing accommodation (rent and deposit)

  • Short-term ‘One Off Grants’

  • Training programmes

  • White goods.

Who we help?

Whilst our focus is on supporting sales representatives, their spouses and partners, we are also able to consider applications from widows and widowers of deceased sales representatives.

We are also able to consider the needs of children of sales representatives and, when necessary, signpost applicants to a charity who can consider support.
